The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, has resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.
His resignation followed allegations of certificate forgery levelled against him.
Recall that an investigation by PREMIUM TIMES revealed Nnaji did not complete his university education and that both the bachelor’s degree and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate he presented to President Tinubu, as well as to the offices of the secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Senate, were forged.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the resignation in a statement on Tuesday.
He said the president has accepted the minister’s resignation and decision to voluntarily step down.
According to Onanuga, President Tinubu “accepted the resignation of Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, following some allegations against him.”
He recalled that“President Tinubu appointed Nnaji in August 2023. He resigned today (Tuesday) in a letter thanking the president for allowing him to serve Nigeria.”
The presidential spokesman also quoted the former minister as saying he had “been a target of blackmail by political opponents.”
“President Tinubu thanked him for his service and wished him well in future endeavours,” the statement added.
