Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), says he is ready to appear as a witness in the terrorism trial of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu but only if properly summoned by the court.
The FCT Minister was reacting to the stories that the detained separatist leader had listed him as one of the witnesses, among other high profile Nigerians, saying if he is subpoenaed to testify, he would appear.
Wike spoke during his monthly media chat on Friday where he noted that he could not have appeared in court because he read on the pages of newspapers that he had been listed as one of the witnesses, maintaining that if he is duly invited or subpoenaed to appear in court, he would do that.
He said; “Nobody has asked me any questions. Nobody has subpoenaed me. So because somebody said I am a witness, therefore, I’m going to run. No, you don’t do that.
“If I am found, if I am subpoenaed to come and give a witness, or to give evidence, I must obey the court. I must appear, not on pages of newspapers.”
The FCT Minister also said it is not in his place to ask why he should be part of the case.
“Nobody does that. I don’t want to ask the facts, why I should be in this case.
“You go to the judge; you ask him the question. But if I am invited to come, go home and sleep. I will be there,” he said.
