Transmission lines supplying electricity to parts of Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, have been targeted by vandals again, disrupting flow to Maitama, Wuse, and Garki and other parts of the city.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday at the 132kv transmission line and underground cable transmitting bulk power to the 132kv Central Area transmission substation, Katampe, in the Central Area of Abuja.

TCN’s general manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the vandalism of the power infrastructure which affected the supply of electricity to Maitama, Wuse, Garki, Jabi, Lifecamp, Asokoro, Utako, Mabushi and among others, was suspected to have been carried out by unknown persons around the Millennium Park.

She revealed that 8 No. distribution feeders feeding the Central Area were affected and over 60 per cent of power supply to Abuja is involved.

The GM said, the vandals carted away 40 meters of 1x500mm xlpe conductor on the 2No of 132kv transmission line.

While decrying the incessant act of vandalism of power cables across the country, Mbah said the company had dispatched a team of engineers to the site to ensure quick restoration of Power in the affected areas.

She said the TCN has dispatched a team of engineers to the site to ensure quick restoration of Power in the affected areas and appealed to affected residents to bear with the transmission agency as efforts are in top gear to ensure repairs of the vandalised cables.

TCN engineers have been mobilised to the site to repair the vandalised cable, enjoining all Nigerians to be vigilant to protect transmission equipment across the country.
