Tems, the Nigerian singer, Beyoncé, and Kendrick Lamar were among the top winners at the 67th Academy Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, United States.
The prestigious award event was held in the early hours of Monday morning at the Crypto.com Arena.
Tems won the ‘Best African Music Performance’ award for her song ‘Love Me JeJe’.
The 29-year-old edged out fellow Nigerians in a strong field of nominees — including Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Davido, Lojay, and Burna Boy — to secure the coveted award.
Lamar won all five categories he was nominated for, including the ‘Record of the Year’, ‘Song of the Year’, ‘Best Rap Performance’, ‘Best Rap Song’, and ‘Best Music Video’ awards for her hit song ‘Not Like Us’.
Beyoncé bagged her first ‘Album of the Year’ for her project ‘Cowboy Carter’. With her win, she becomes the first black woman to get the award in the 21st century.
