The 2023 Nnamdi Azikiwe University convocation was scheduled to take place from Monday 4th to Friday 8th of December, 2023. One of the activities to commemorate the convocation ceremony is the 17 convocation pioneer University Hall-of-Fame award presentation ceremony which took place on Tuesday 5th 0f December, 2023 at the university auditorium. 20 members of the university alumni were recognized and honored with an awarded and were also inducted into the pioneer university hall of fame.
Nnamdi Azikiwe university Hall of Fame is one of the brain child of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Charles Okechukwu Esimone project 200. The idea of the university Hall of Fame is to identify and honor former students of the university who in their field of endeavor has performed credibly well and has also been a source of tremendous support to the university .
20 alumni members where singled out for its maiden edition. amongst them were, Mr. Dominic Ottih, Mr. Onyekwelu Okoye FCA, Rt Hon. Chukwuma Pius Okoye he is the Deputy Speaker Anambra House of Assembly, Senator Uche Ekwunife, Dr. Amb. Sunday Obiora, High Chief Dr. Christopher Ndubuisi, Engr. Dr. Okoye Chiedozie Alex (JP), Lolo Francisca Oluchukwu Ibeh, Dr. Afam Ben Obidike, Dr. Ishmael Emeke Udenta, Engr. Chikelue Edward Ochiagha, Mr. Valentine Chineto Ozigbo, Engr. Dr. Felix C. Odimegwu, Chief Matthew Ikedube Umeohanekwulu, Engr Dr. Kizito Nnamdi Onunkwo, Esv Chukwuebuka Arnold Ekweoba, Mr. Stephano N. Uzoekwe, Ozo Nwakibie Valentine Uzochukwu, Chief Sir. Azubuike Umunna, Ichie Ozo Ignatus Aguowo
Speaking with two of the recipient of the fame award Mr. Dominic and Mr. Onyekwelu, they expressed gratitude to the university management body for identifying them among numerous students who have graduated from the university over 20 to 25 years ago. “The only reward for hard work is more work” Mr Dominic said, When asked, now that they have been inducted to the university Hall-of-Fame, what is their next plan for the university, Mr. Onyekwelu told Afrimarknews that they will be readily available and will respond swiftly at anytime the school calls on them.
The recipients expressed joy with the rate of development in the university, they told Afrimarknews that the level of development in Nnamdi Azikiwe university is impressive compare to how the school was in their time. they commended the vice chancellor Prof Esimone in his effort to place the university in the top list of standard universities, making the universities to be rated reasonably in the recent national and international university rating despite the challenges faced by his administration since he assumed office as the vice chancellor.
