The opposition New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has raised concern over the alleged plan by President Bola Tinubu’s administration to return the nation to a party system.

Though, NNPP claimed to have actively contributed to the success recorded by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2023 presidential poll but vowed that the reverse would be the case in 2027.

The Chairman of the opposition in Kano, Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa, made the claims on Thursday while addressing journalists.

Dungurawa said that Nigerians are fed up with the policies of the APC administration and challenged the Federal Government to reverse what he described as “anti-people policies” before leaving the stage in 2027.

According to Dungurawa, “the only challenge we are facing now is the plans by the federal government to make the country a one-party system. But we would continue to advise the federal government to better intensify efforts in providing laudable policies that would alleviate the sufferings of the people.”

Dungurawa also dismissed claims by the APC in the state that the NNPP presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, was a political refugee seeking relevance.

The Chairman said contrary to APC’s wishful thinking, Kwankwaso remain a bonafide member and National leader of NNPP and was not nursing ambition to join APC.

He described Kwankwaso as a “True Democrat” who never joined a ruling party but rather defected from a ruling party, the PDP, and spearheaded the formation of the APC which captured power in 2015.

“So, certainly Kwankwaso is not a political refugee as claimed by the APC. He is a true democrat that fights injustice and misrule and brings change to Nigeria,” he said.

According to the chairman, the APC did not only capture power at the centre under President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, but it also captured Kano and several other states and state and National Assembly seats.

“All these were due to the efforts of our leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who will, God willing, become the next president of Nigeria, come 2027 elections,” he said.

Dungurawa said the NNPP would again, roundly defeat the APC in the 2027 general elections in the state with more votes than in the 2023 general elections.
