The 28-year-old Nigerian midfielder kicked off the year with the AFCON 2023 tournament with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, playing all seven games as José Peseiro’s men claimed a silver medal in Ivory Coast.

After the AFCON 2023 final, the former Arsenal man was subject to loads of unnecessary trolls and abuses online, but he turned the situation into a fuel to do better. He marked his return to club football with a last-minute winner against Manchester United at Old Trafford, breaking a 19-year-old record by doing so.

Since then, the Fulham man has grown in leaps and bounds, putting out consistent performances for club and country.

In a result posted by ESPN UK, the former Everton man was listed amongst the players that have created the most chances from open play in the English Premier League this year. The Nigerian is fifth on the list, creating 54 chances alongside Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne.

The rest of the list is completed by Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, and topped off by Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard with 62 chances created in 2024.

Alex Iwobi has been in great form for Fulham this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists in the league. He, alongside Nigerian teammate, Calvin Bassey have featured in all of the Cottagers Premier League games this campaign.
