Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has affirmed that his administration will not yield to blatant blackmail while remaining dedicated to building on the achievements made in ensuring peace, advancing good governance, executing critical projects, and enhancing the state’s Internally Generated Revenue, IGR.

Speaking during the 64th Nigerian Independence Day Anniversary Parade held at the Government House Arcade in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Governor Fubara praised President Bola Tinubu for his bold and pragmatic economic reforms aimed at addressing past structural deficiencies and leading Nigeria into a new era of sustainable economic growth and prosperity.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara reflected on the significance of October 1, 1960, marking the day when Nigeria’s first Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, raised the nation’s cherished green-white-green flag, symbolizing independence and freedom from British colonial rule.

He acknowledged the heroic sacrifices of the founding fathers and other leaders, as well as the contributions of brave men and women who have played pivotal roles in sustaining freedom and promoting the unity and progress of Nigeria.

He said, “The vision of our founding fathers at independence was to build a united and secure nation anchored on the values of brotherhood, democracy, justice, and the equality of all peoples, tribes and nations.

“Our leaders, past and present, have kept on doing their best to keep the country together and advance the progress and well-being of the citizens.”

Governor Fubara acknowledged the economic hardships that have increased the difficulties faced by many Nigerians and emphasized that “despite the economic hardship and social ills bedevilling our nation and stifling its progress, we still have good reasons to celebrate and be grateful to God as a nation and people.

“We are known all over the world as hardworking, confident and happy people. We are known for our enormous natural and human resources and economic potential.

“We are also known for our rich cultural diversity – a vibrant nation where different religions, languages and traditions co-exist peacefully.”

He urged Nigerians to be grateful for the blessings God has provided, which are essential for building a great nation where no one is oppressed and everyone can live in peace and abundance.

The Governor emphasized the importance of upholding the vision of the nation’s founding leaders by reaffirming their commitment to a united country under God.

He called on citizens to pledge their allegiance to one another in the pursuit of freedom, peace, and justice.
