Former Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi has revealed that he was offered performance-enhancing drugs when he was at Chelsea,

Chelsea forward Mykhailo Mudryk has dominated the news in the past week due to the update from the club that he failed a drug test last month.

Following the update, former Nigeria midfielder Mikel has shared his own experience. Recall that the retired 37-year-old midfielder featured for Chelsea for eleven years and was part of their Golden era.

Speaking on Mudryk’s situation, Mikel has stressed the importance of caution for athletes as it concerns nutrition. He added that he was offered strange performance-enhancing substances by friends and acquaintances during his time at Chelsea, but he rejected them.

“For him (Mudryk) and his family, I hope he is innocent. I remember when we were playing, if someone is offering me something, I will ask you what it is”, Mikel said on the Obi One podcast.

“I’m responsible for what I put in my body, what I eat, and stuff like that. People around will offer you stuff-friends, friends of friends-they will tell you that this will give you this or it will give you one or two more percent in your performances, and I’m like what is this? Is this legal?

“I tell them to go away, I don’t want to talk about it. We have to take responsibility for our actions and what we eat. But for now, Mudryk is innocent until proven guilty.”

If Mudryk is confirmed guilty, he will be the first Chelsea player that will test positive to doping for a long time. The Ukrainian could be banned from football for up to four years, and that could put paid to his career.
