The Nigeria Government has placed former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, on security watchlist. Recall that Emefiele was released from Kuje prisons after fulfilling his bail conditions on Friday, December 22, 2023.
Adamu Sampson Duza, the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in charge of Kuje Correctional Centre, confirmed Emefiele’s release to journalists on Saturday.
He said, “I can confirm to you that he (Emefiele) has met his bail conditions, hence he has no reason to remain in our facility. He met his bail condition and was released past 2pm yesterday (Friday),”
Report has it that despite Emefiele’s release, security agencies are said to be watching over his movements. A sources at the Nigeria Immigration Service disclosed to Afrimarknews that federal government have asked the Nigeria Immigration Service to watch over Emefiele’s movements in and out of the country following Jim Obaze the private investigator, massive corruption cases that was uncovered at the CBN under Emefiele’s watch.
According to a report he submitted to President Bola Tinubu, Emefiele operated 593 illegal foreign bank accounts and used his cronies to purchase some commercial banks among other weighty claims.
