This action comes after a circular released on Thursday by the council’s secretary, G.O. Saliu, confirmed the council’s endorsement.

According to PUNCH, the circular stated that the university governing council had “considered the reviewed schedule of levies for newly admitted and returning undergraduate students in the 2023/2024 academic session and approved it as recommended by the university Senate.”

The circular further noted, “Consequently, students who are yet to pay and complete their registration exercises are advised to do so on or before Wednesday, September 4, 2024, to enable departments to download lists of registered students in preparation for the first semester examination.”

In response to this development, students have expressed their displeasure by gathering in large numbers from their various hostels, chanting solidarity slogans as they march across the campus.

Also, represented by The University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UISU), in the early hours of August 30th, issued their demands which contains a 7-point resolution was issued in response to the Governing Council’s decision.

This includes the reversal of the fees and the shutdown of the school fees portal within 24 hours. The Union also called for a total boycott of classes until these demands are met.
