He assured the residents of Gwagwalada that efforts were underway to improve healthcare facilities in the area, in addition to the ongoing education initiatives.

The Minister acknowledged the collaboration with the National Assembly in expeditiously passing the 2024 Budget, which includes provisions for school rehabilitation and construction.

He assured contractors of timely payment and warned against any attempts to sabotage government efforts. Wike emphasized the importance of not only providing access to education but also ensuring its quality.

He underscored the need for conducive learning environments and qualified teachers to deliver quality education to students. This commitment aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at enhancing educational standards across the FCT.

Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the Minister of State for FCT, echoed Wike’s sentiments, emphasizing the need for optimal learning environments for future generations. She commended the Wike administration, under President Bola Tinubu, for prioritizing the rehabilitation and reconstruction of FCT schools.

Senator Jim Kuta of the Senate Committee on Area Councils and Auxiliary Matters expressed disappointment at the absence of the area council chairman during the flag-off exercise, promising continued collaboration with the FCT administration.

Engr. Osondu Ekeekwu, the contractor handling the rehabilitation of the School for the Gifted in Gwagwalada, highlighted the scope of the project. He revealed that the rehabilitation was included in the 2023 Supplementary Budget, with plans for another twenty schools in the 2024 budget.

Earlier in his welcome address, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, the Mandate Secretary of the Education Secretariat, announced that the Minister had approved N280 million in scholarships for over 130,000 indigent students in the FCT.

He emphasized that the school rehabilitation initiative aimed to lay the foundation for the future of children, ensuring that no child is left behind in accessing quality education.

Additionally, he lauded the Minister’s commitment to the total development of future leaders, citing successful initiatives such as the Schools Sports Festival.
