Excitement pervades the firmament at Umuatugbuoma Community, Nkanu-West Local Government Area of Enugu State following the acquisition of 34.4 hectares of land aimed at providing affording mass housing for the people by the Enugu State Housing Development  Corporation, ESHDC.

The expanse of land which hitherto provided an abode for miscreants who unleashed pain and anguish to hapless residents will apart from provide affordable housing, also trigger socio-economic activities of the people

Speaking to newsmen on the sidelines of the willful donation of the parcel of land to the ESHDC, a community leader, Elder Philip Nnam eulogized the pointed effort of the Enugu State Government to bring development to the rural areas where the majority of the populace reside.

An elated Elder Nnam said, ‘we are happy that government has remembered us. That parcel of land had served  as a hideout for criminal elements terrorizing our people. With this development, socio-economic activities in our area will begin to spring up.

“The advent of this mass housing will apart from provide jobs to our various skilled professionals in the construction industry, it will also upscale the value of our property along this corridor.

“We cannot find appropriate words that can express the depth of our gratitude to Governor  Peter Mbah for this developmental initiative. It has brought confidence on this administration and we will do everything within our powers to support and protect this development the government has brought to us”.

Another respondent, a member of the Neighbourhood Watch Group, Mr Val Oko, explained that “the mere clearing of this place will provide illumination, deter miscreants from hiding under the cloak or cover of the thick green vegetation, instill confidence on motorists, passerby, among other road users”.
