The Senator representing Kano South, Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila has advised Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, not to please a former governor of the state, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso at the expense of the masses.

The senator who spoke with newsmen yesterday in Abuja, also asked the Kano governor to be fair to all citizens including members of the opposition parties in the state.

Rumours within the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the NNPP alleged that Kwankwaso exerts excessive influence over Yusuf’s administration, with some claiming he dictates key policy decisions.

The House of Representatives member representing Dala Federal Constituency, Aliyu Sani Madakin-Gini, who recently broke ranks with Kwankwaso, had alleged that Governor Yusuf’s tiff with Kwankwaso stems from controversies over a drug contract and a state-funded scholarship scheme.

But Senator Sumaila said the millions of Kano citizens will not forgive the governor if he fail them, stressing that he must also unite and work with his mentor and former governor of the state, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in the interest of the people.

He said the biggest danger is to betray God, who did everything for him to become governor of Kano State

“If it is one person, you can seek his forgiveness and he will forgive you. However, if you betray over 20 million people or the few who supported you, I am pleading with Governor Abba to avoid this danger.

“He must also know that his government is not only about the rights of Kwankwaso or members of Kwankwasiyya but there are also the rights of NNPP members and all other persons that joined hands and supported him till he became the governor.

“We also have rights that must be protected. That is the first thing that he must be conscious about.

He must also protect the rights of APC members who did not even vote for him. It must be the same with the members of the PDP and other smaller parties,” the senator said.

Meanwhile, a factional National Working Committee (NWC) of the NNPP has responded to Senator Kwankwaso’s recent visit to Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, describing it as a “deceptive manoeuver.”

The NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary, Abdulsalam Abdulrazaq, said after their meeting in Lagos that, “As far as the NNPP is concerned, Kwankwaso and his allies are gone for good.” He added that the party is “Regaining peace and stability.”

The NWC claimed that Kwankwaso holds no official role in the NNPP and cautioned Governor Otti to avoid involvement in internal party matters “Orchestrated by Kwankwaso.”
