The bill which is sponsored by two lawmakers — Abiodun Adesida and Olaide Muhammed — also sought to make Corps on the rank of Deputy Corp Marshal enjoy benefits attached to that grade including retirement grade.

The bill also sought to empower the Federal Road Safety Corps with the responsibility for road traffic administration and safety management, preventing and minimising road traffic crashes on public roads, among others.

The bill scaled second reading without a debate and would now be subjected to a public hearing.

Also, following the consideration of the Report of the Committee on Public Accounts on a Motion on the Alleged Mismanagement of Covid-19 Intervention Funds Disbursed to some Ministries, Departments, and Agencies covering the period 2020 – 2022, the House of Representatives has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to provide comprehensive information on funds recovered from MDAs on COVID-19 intervention funds.

The House also asked the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation to provide evidence of remittances/mop-up of unspent funds on COVID-19 intervention funds from ministries, departments and agencies.
