National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Fulani, Dr. Bello Bodejo, and Secretary, Saleh Alhassan, have said grazing reserves is one way to curb clash between farmers and herders.
Speaking in Iseyin, Oyo State, at Southwest Peace Summit and inauguration of state executives, they said the clashes, if unresolved, posed threat to the economy of Nigeria, but also to national security.
Bodejo said the Fulani had been contributing to the economy of Nigeria, hence, the need for governors to create grazing reserves for them, to curb conflicts between herders and their host communities.
Bodejo said the Fulani were peace-loving people, noting that accusing fingers should not always be pointed at them whenever a crime was committed.
Alhassan, an engineer, said Nigerians must move beyond blame and force, listen to one another, plan together and act in unity, adding that farmers and herders were important to the future of Nigeria.
He said: ‘’When a relationship between farmers and herders is managed with fairness and foresight, they can become powerful drivers of growth, food security and social harmony.’’
Alhassan urged Nigerians to rise above division, reject hatred, politicisation and exclusion, and choose peace, to enable the nation develop.
