At a brief ceremony in Accra, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, presented her credentials and conveyed congratulations on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and the people of Ghana.

“We have no doubt that, looking at your impressive profile and outstanding track record, you will be a worthy representative of Ghana at UNESCO. President Mahama has reposed enormous confidence in you, and we trust that you will excel in your new role,” Mr Ablakwa stated.

The Foreign Affairs Minister assured her of the Ministry’s full support, affirming that the government will collaborate with her to ensure Ghana’s effective engagement within UNESCO. He noted that UNESCO is a key agency of the United Nations that plays a critical role in shaping global policies on education, science, culture, and heritage preservation.

“UNESCO’s work significantly influences our development as a people. At a time when the world is grappling with climate change, green transitions, and the need to integrate science into policymaking, your role will be pivotal,” Mr Ablakwa said.

He emphasized the importance of safeguarding Ghana’s heritage, languages, and cultural identity, and called on Madam Lamptey-Addy to advocate for the protection of endangered local languages, the promotion of Ghanaian values, and the country’s interests in curriculum development and international educational policy.

“UNESCO is instrumental in identifying and preserving heritage sites of which Ghana has a few. Your role will help ensure that these cultural assets are protected for future generations,” The Minister added
