Govt unveils five-year industrial policy
Lagos State Government has scrapped remote work for public servants, citing the need to enhance service delivery and align with the implementation of the new minimum wage.

Head of Service Bode Agoro announced the decision in a statement yesterday.

He said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had approved the cancellation, effective March 31.

“It is hereby notified for general information that the governor has approved the cancellation of the work-from-home initiative in the Lagos State Public Service,” Agoro said.

The remote work policy was introduced in February 2024 to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal.

However, with the state government approving N85,000 minimum wage for civil servants on October 17, 2024, authorities believe full on-site work will improve efficiency.

Agoro urged public servants to recommit to their responsibilities, ensuring improved service delivery across Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

“Public servants are urged to rededicate themselves to their duties. Accounting officers are instructed to give this circular the service-wide publicity it deserves.”

Also the state government has launched a five-year industrial policy to transform the state into a globally-competitive industrial hub.

The policy, spanning 2025 to 2030, is designed to foster a sustainable, resilient and innovative industrial landscape that leverages technology, sustainability and global competitiveness, according to the Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medebem.

At the Lagos State Industrial Policy Consultative Assembly and Validation Workshop held to provide inputs on the states’ economic development strategy, the commissioner said the policy focused on key areas such as sustainability, innovation and global best practices.

“The theme of today’s assembly speaks to our commitment to creating an enabling business environment that encourages sustainable investment, infrastructure development and industrial growth. The policy also emphasises the importance of strategic public-private partnerships, green industrialisation and environmental sustainability,” she said.

According to Mrs. Ambrose-Medebem, the review also aims to position Lagos State towards contributing more to Nigeria’s GDP, of which it already accounts for over 30 per cent.
