The Kano State Internal Revenue Service, KIRS, has introduced an online platform for payment of tax, named eeZitax.

The executive chairman of KIRS, Zaid Abubakar, announced the launching of the platform in a statement in Kano on Thursday.

Mr Abubakar explained that to access the e-tax platform, taxpayers should visit etax.kirs.gov.ng and follow the prompts to complete and submit the annual tax returns electronically.
He added that user guide had been provided online via https://etax.kirs.gov.ng/manuals.
In the statement, the executive chairman announced that the deadline for filing of annual tax returns is January 31, 2025.

According to him, failure to file annual tax returns on or before the January 31 constitutes a contravention of the provisions of Section 41(1) (2) of the Personal Income Tax Act 2011 (as amended).
He, therefore, called on all employers of labour to file their tax before the deadline to avoid being punished.
“This is to inform all employers of labour that the deadline for filing of annual tax returns is 31st January, 2025.

“Failure to file annual tax returns on or before 31st January, 2025 constitutes a contravention of the provisions of Section 41(1) (2) of the Personal Income Tax Act 2011 (as amended).
“The Annual Tax Returns should state for each employee, the total emoluments of the employee during the year; the tax relief, if any; and the total tax deducted from the employee.
“In line with our commitment to improving taxpayer services and efficiency, we are pleased to announce that all taxpayers can now file their returns through the newly introduced online portal eeZitax.
“All corporate organisations are hereby advised to file their online tax returns by the specified deadline,” he added.

Mr Abubakar warned that failure to file the annual tax returns by the deadline would attract penalty of N500,000.00 “as stipulated under Section 81(3) of the Personal Income Tax Act, 2011 (as amended)”.
