The Kwara State Football Association, KSFA, has conveyed their profound sorrow and dismay at the passing of FC Ifeanyi Ubah’s owner, Senator Ifeanyi, who tragically succumbed to a brief illness in London on Saturday.
Reflecting on this tragedy, Mall Idris Musa Abdullahi, also known as Thuraya, the chairman of the KSFA, expressed that the news came as a devastating blow, especially since the football community was still reeling from the recent loss of Chief Emmanuel Iwuayanwu, the proprietor of Iwuayanwu Nationale, which later became Heartland FC.
“The untimely demise of Chief Iwuayanwu, followed closely by the sad news of Sen Ubah, has dealt a severe blow to the football fraternity in our country,”remarked Thuraya.
Sen (Dr) Ifeanyi Ubah took the reins of Gabros International of Nnewi in the Nigerian top-flight league, rebranding it as FC Ifeanyi Ubah, marking his significant involvement in football administration in the nation. He passed away at the age of 52.
Chief Emmanuel Iwuanywu, the esteemed owner of Iwuayanwu Nationale who made significant strides in the 1980s, breathed his last at the age of 82.
In a heartfelt message of condolence to the bereaved families, Hon Abdullahi noted that the loss of both Sen Ifeanyi and Chief Iwuayanwu comes at a time when their wealth of experience is sorely missed, given their substantial contributions to the advancement of football in the country.
“We are deeply saddened and profoundly affected by the passing of these distinguished and revered figures in football administration,”Thuraya added.
He offered prayers for the eternal repose of both men’s souls and for strength and solace to be granted to their grieving families.
