Bello El-rufai, the eldest son of the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-rufai, has debunked rumours making the rounds that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission raided his Kaduna residence and discovered funds in different currencies stashed in vaults.

Bello El-rufai, who is the current House of Representative Member, Representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency at the National Assembly on Wednesday described the allegations as not only “false” but also a calculated effort to undermine his credibility and distract his public service.

Recall that there have been rumours making the rounds that EFCC uncovered $800 million, N700 billion cash, and N1 trillion worth of drugs at his residence In Kaduna.

El-rufai, in a statement he signed and obtained by the PUNCH Online on Wednesday, reiterated that he does not own a residence in Kaduna, but rather their family home in Unguwar Sarki, where he stayed and it has been home for him right from birth.

According to him, the unfounded allegation was nothing but a deliberate attempt to mislead the public, tarnish his reputation, and sow the seed of confusion.

“My constituents that I represent know what will happen if I was blessed with such figures. For those sponsoring these ignorant attacks, I assure you that we will continue to serve the people, and we will continue to enjoy how it annoys them; adding quality, frank, and honest representation is here to stay in Kaduna North.

“The use of fake news to manipulate public perception and instigate discord, stressing the attempt to connect him to illicit activities through unfounded allegations was not only defamatory but an affront to the principles of justice and fairness,” he stated.

He maintained that his legal team would institute legal action against some media outfits, and the money they pay for their lies would be put to good use in Kaduna North.

El-rufai explained that the image being circulated was originally published in Vanguard in April 2017.
