The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won massively across the 17 Local Government Areas in Enugu State during the recent council elections held on Saturday.
In an announcement on Monday, the Chairman of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), Prof. Christian Ngwu, confirmed that PDP won all 260 councillorship seats in the weekend’s poll.

Ngwu explained that the commission took additional time to announce the councillorship election results to conduct a thorough review.

Earlier, on Sunday, ENSIEC had already confirmed the PDP’s victory in all 17 Chairmanship positions within the state.

As the returning officer for the elections, Ngwu noted that ENSIEC meticulously compiled and examined the results to ensure compliance with electoral laws and to avoid any errors or violations.

“PDP won all 260 ward councillorship positions within the 260 political wards in the state.

“The election was duly conducted and it was most peaceful, fair, free and credible.

“ENSIEC ensured a level playing field for all 17 political parties that participated in the Polls held on Saturday.

“Full details of the councillorship election will come out and be made known to the public subsequently,” he said.

Ngwu noted that the Certificate of Return would be issued shortly by the commission to the individuals who have won the chairmanship and councillorship positions, as stated by him.

The chairman also noted that there was no significant evidence of violence during the elections held on Saturday.

“The commission is not aware of any violence or breakdown of law and order during the polls,” he said.
