Tertiary institutions in Nigeria, notably universities, polytechnics, and Colleges of Education (CoEs), have decided on the minimum admissible scores, formerly known as “cut-off marks”, for the 2024 admissions cycle.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) stated that while institutions have the liberty to admit students based on the minimum scores they submit to JAMB, no institution is allowed to admit any candidate with a score below 140. This benchmark was endorsed by all stakeholders at the 2024 Policy Meeting held in Abuja on Thursday.
Similarly, polytechnics and Colleges of Education (CoEs) are not permitted to admit candidates scoring below 100, as also endorsed at the Policy Meeting.
JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, emphasised that the minimum scores were determined by the institutions, not JAMB. He added that a fee of N2,000 was also set for the Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Post-UTME).
Professor Oloyede maintained that the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) remains the sole platform for admissions, stressing that sanctions await institutions that violate the admission processes, particularly those circumventing CAPS. He insisted that admissions conducted outside the CAPS platform are illegal and no longer tenable.
